ABOUT THIS STUDY
We are seeking volunteers to participate in a clinical research study for people who have moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis. This research study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication, compared with a placebo (an inactive medicine). If you qualify to participate in this study, you will attend up to 5 appointments over 6 weeks. The study doctor will assess your response to treatment.
After 6 weeks of participation in this study, you will be eligible to participate in an additional 54-week maintenance study and a long-term extension study that will last up to 3 years.
This program will include approximately 1,350 participants worldwide. About 105 doctors across the United States and Canada are participating in this program.
You May Qualify to Participate in this Study if you:
- Have moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis
- Are being treated with or have failed treatment with oral 5-aminosalicylates (5-ASAs), or oral corticosteroids, or 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP), or Imuran (AZA, azathioprine)
- Are willing to attend up to 5 visits
You May Not Participate in this Study if you:
- Have been treated with anti-TNF therapy
- Have a history of tuberculosis
- Have a history of recurring infections
Participants will receive study medication or placebo, study-related medical exams, procedures, and laboratory tests at no cost.
