Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes chronic inflammation in the digestive tract. Ulcerative colitis usually affects only the innermost lining of your large intestine (colon) and rectum. It occurs through continuous stretches of your colon. Ulcerative colitis can be debilitating and may lead to life-threatening complications.
